Epidemiological Dynamics Prediction Engine

rural image

Multi-point prediction model for distribution of available personnel and resources.

CHALLENGE:
To predict biological activity and its spread among people in the event of a major outbreak.

SOLUTION:
The Epidemiological Dynamics Prediction Engine (Epi-Engine) focuses on simulation and prediction of the epidemiological dynamics associated with a long-term mass casualty event such as an infectious disease outbreak. Medical response to such events requires precise distribution of available personnel and resources. Poor distribution of these resources could result in an increase in infections and mortality; therefore, reliable prediction of the expected severity is crucial. The Epi-Engine is a stochastic model that captures human activity, incubation period of the agent causing the disease, and the infection probability per contact between an infected and susceptible individual.

POTENTIAL APPLICATION:
Due to society's increasing mobility, the Epi-Engine is poised to serve a critical role not only in detection, but also as a planning instrument for optimal resource distribution.
