Building integrated solutions for complex medical emergencies.
CHALLENGE:
To review and identify gaps in existing policies, protocols, and communication practices for the civilian response community.
SOLUTION:
This project develops technologically enabled solutions to support healthcare delivery and healthcare education as an integral component of preparedness and response to complex medical emergencies.
CIMERC utilizes process management and the strength of task force and working group efforts to coordinate multi-agency initiatives. Such consensus efforts call to attention the essential role of public health and medical personnel in disaster mitigation as well as the role of civilians at large. To strengthen cooperation within the medical community, CIMERC has emerged as a critical agent in the organization and management of disaster preparedness initiatives in the western hemisphere.
Accomplishments:
- Developed the Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Forum
- Designed the Strategies for Incident Preparedness, emergency response scenarios for preparedness training
POTENTIAL APPLICATION:
CIMERC products and resources will allow users to create comprehensive disaster policies and procedures, and to enhance existing disaster plans.
